We recently rented a motor home that we want to take to drive around our trip to Europe with the whole family. Never having done this type of vacation before we are still trying to figure out how much its all going to cost. We are renting the motor home from a guy in the UK so its already over there, now we just need to figure out what the cost of caravan insurance to cover it will be. I thought we could just get a general car insurance for it but we were told that larger vehicles require a different type of insurance and that the rates are higher. My husband is pretty concerned that the cost of caravan insurance will be really high but like I tell him, this vacation is something that we have dreamt of doing all out lives and even if the cost of caravan insurance is really high we are still going to get it and it's going to beworthit 100 percent.

The wife, Sally, and myself are keen motorcyclists and frequently go on motorcycle holidays. Of course, we have two bike insurance to cover both of us, which we found using our old online friend Google – Just entering two bike insurance gave us a massive number of hits, but after correcting it to “two bike insurance” (with the quotes) whittled that down to just two pages. Then it was just a matter of sitting in front of the PC with a coffee and working down the list comparing prices and liability coverage. Doing this online is so easy and must be a lot less effort and must give a far wider choice than any other method, and of course, it has to be cheaper in terms of both time and money. The two bike insurance that we finally settled on covered us both in the UK and abroad, which was important to us since we intended to cycle down to the Loire Valley in France. The whole holiday was intended to take about a week. We took the ferry across from Dover to Calais and then, from Calais, we took the A16 and headed towards Rouen, where we spent the first night. We both enjoyed Rouen - although the hotel was not ideal, the city has a good vibrant feel to it. It was also where Joan of Arc was finally burnt, which we were not aware of before. They have a Festival on the second Sunday in May; we missed that by only two weeks. From Rouen, we headed South towards the Loire valley and spent the following night in the town of Saumur on the south bank of the Loire. Saumur is a picturesque town and very striking on the approach with the white château high above the Loire river. We stayed a couple of nights in Saumur and then headed east along the Loire, chateau hunting. We visited the magnificent chateau at Chenenceau spanning the river and on to Chinon where we stayed the following two nights. We liked Chinon a lot, finding it interesting architecturally and with some excellent restaurants. That was really all we had time for. Our plans included a night in Chartres on the way back which was also well worth the visit – it is just a shame that we were unable to spend longer there. We are currently planning our next holiday and we plan a very similar journey trying to cover those places missed or hurried the first time around.
